POLICE SEALED OGUN STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY

As a result of Tuesday’s disturbance at the Ogun State House of Assembly, heavy presence of police personnel was noticed in and around the premises of the House on Wednesday morning. The well armed mobile policemen who stood on guard prevented legislators from entering. Only staff of the House were allowed in to the offices and that was after they had been subjected to thorough screening.  Violence broke out after four members of the House were suspended. The members however rejected the suspension and subsequently announced the suspension of the Speaker, Hon Suraj Adekunbi and the election of another Speaker, Remi Hassan who incidentally was one of those who had earlier been suspended. In the fracas that followed, the mace which is the symbol of authority was broken. We  also gathered that the House is presently polarized with 13 members on each side and both sides have written to the police to notify the law enforcement agents of the suspension of some members. Street Journal’s calls to the PRO of the Ogun State police command were unanswered at the time of filing this report. It was also gathered that the Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun has scheduled a meeting with the lawmakers
